The true test of any golf course is measured by
requiring a player’s ability to control shot length and direction. This
9-hole par-3 course optimises these demands. With holes ranging from 58
metres to 160 metres, the ability to hit crisp approach shots and to
pitch and putt well, are the secrets of good scoring on this very
attractive and manicured course. Inaugurated
in April 2001, and located close to the main road between Albufeira and
Vilamoura, both the Golf Course and the Driving-range are open to
golfers of all ages. Opening times in the
winter season are from 8 am to 6pm. During the rest of the year, the
course is open from 7.30 am to 8 pm. On Wednesdays there is an 18 Hole
Friendly Competition open to all golfers. The Atlantic Course is the first of two 18-hole
golf courses inaugurated at Castro Marim Golfe and Country Club. On the
first 18 holes you will have a breathtaking mountain, river and sea
views. These views are part of the spectacular scenery to be enjoyed by
those wishing to take walks merely throughout the surrounding
countryside. A driving range, chipping and putting
green have also been built so as to provide ever important practice
facilities. These will be supervised by our team of golf professionals
who will be more than pleased to assist you in improving your game. Another
interesting feature of this course at Castro Marim Golfe and Country
Club is the irrigation system. The entire course is irrigated by means
of an underground so called 'leaky pipe' system. This enables golfers
to play at times when courses with conventional aerial sprinklers would
normally be unavailable. U.S. golf
architect Joseph Lee designed this course which was opened in 1990 and
many previous visitors will recognise it as part of the former 27-hole
Vilamoura III course. It has been subject to continual improvements
over the years. Measuring 6,111 metres from
the white tees, the par-72 course includes several lakes which
influence play on a total of 11 holes. In addition to acting as hazards
and emergency water reservoirs, these lakes serve a useful purpose in
attracting a variety of aquatic birds, both resident and migratory, as
well as amphibians, otters, terrapins etc. Vilamoura's master developers, Lusotur, have also established an environmental nature park not far from the course. Laguna shares a large, welcoming clubhouse with the neighbouring Millennium Course. In keeping with its reputation for excellence,
Quinta do Lago takes great pride in the opening of its new and third 18
hole championship course, Laranjal. Laranjal,
originally an orange grove, is today a beautiful and totally different
golf experience. It is a sanctuary for those seeking the finest in golf
and personalized service. Its narrow fairways and well defined greens
require concentration and accuracy to navigate this testing route laid
out on a rolling and distinctive terrain. It
is a par 72, 6,480 meters, with five par 5s, eight par 4s, five par 3s
set amongst umbrella pines, cork-oaks and orange trees with a natural
water course and 5 beautiful lakes. Penn
A4 was selected for the greens to help guarantee good putting surfaces
all year round and the Fairways are sown with Bermuda. Parque da Floresta is situated near the fishing
village of Salema, about 16 kilometres west of the town of Lagos, near
Sagres - one of the most important places in Portuguese and European
history - and close to the Costa Vicentina nature reserve. The golf course was designed by the famous Spanish
architect Papa Gancedo, whose masterpiece is the well-known
Torrequebrada project, in Spain. Here at Parque da Floresta he has
given continuity to his concept of course design, which is not to use
much earthmoving, even when natural conditions are adverse. With a total length of
5,888 metres and a par of 72, Parque da Floresta has in the par-5
number 9 one of his best holes, requiring an extremely accurate third
stroke towards an elevated green. On the second back nine the l59-metre
par-3, l5th at this course is regarded as a classic hole. The course has two architects. The American
William Mitchell designed holes 1 to 5 and 15 to 18 in 1974. These
holes (as with the other course) share a unique character. The terrain
is superb and typical of the area, sandy and littered with umbrella
pines trees. In the spring, the rough is covered with a blanket of wild
flowers, heather and gorse. These holes have more cross falls
on the fairways than the other layouts and all the Par 4 and 5 holes
are doglegs, demanding precise tee shots, to set up straightforward
approaches. Like the 'Quinta do Lago South' course, it is a favours the
players who can draw the ball. Holes 6 to 14 were designed by Joseph
Lee with the collaboration of Rocky Roquemore, both from the USA, and
opened in 1989. All the famous male and female players who have
experienced this course, including 'Ryder Cup' and 'Curtis Cup' team
members, have been euphoric in their praise for this course, which will
soon take its place among the great European layouts. The Royal Golf Course has rolling fairways set
amidst pine trees and beautiful lakes surrounded by wild flowers. Its
features include the almost island green of the 9th and the famous
16th, with cliff-top carryover - one of the most celebrated golfing
images in the world, which has become the veritable symbol of golf in
the Algarve. The Royal Golf Course was
designed by top American golf architect Rocky Roquemore, based on
original drawings made by Sir Henry Cotton. It was inaugurated in 1997. |
