8 Bedroom Farm in Tavira – Quinta dos Perfumes

Quinta dos Perfumes is located in the Eastern Algarve, near the town of Tavira and along the adjacent villas of Conceição and Cabanas, and incorporated into Natural Park of Ria Formosa.

The name Quinta dos Perfumes was given due to the fact that, in the sixties, in this countryside has worked a factory of mallow flowers distillation to obtain essences for the manufacture of perfumes.

This tourism project is set in a farm of thirty-six acres, where the prevailing culture is a citrus orchard. There are alson other smaller ones, such as arbutus, lemon walnut, fig and carob.

The farm, which is fenced, has a great location, bordered on the north by EN 125 and is located approximately 10 minutes’ walk from the towns of Conceição and Cabanas de Tavira, as well as their Paradise island. Located near three golf courses (Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima and Quinta de Benamor), it abuts the eco-route and one of the Iberian pilgrimage routes of Caminho de Santiago.

In early 50ths and 60ths, Quinta dos Perfumes was dedicated to the planting of mallows. It had a factory where mallows were distilled in order to extract the substance used in the production of perfumes. The experience turned out to be uneconomic and the project was abandoned.

In the seventies, this rural area was purchased by the family that now belongs, who sought more dynamic introducing the cultivation of table vines, taking advantage of the excellent climatic conditions of the area. With the decline of the vineyard, the second generation of the family opted to convert the existing culture in a citrus orchard, one of the traditional cultures of Algarve.

Today, it has developed this agro-tourism project, to share the beauty and tranquility of Quinta dos Perfumes with those who visit it.
