Did you know that the Ria Formosa Natural Park hosts the largest community of these amazing creatures in the world? Two resident species have been identified: the long-snouted seahorse, hippocampus guttulatus, and the short-snouted seahorse, hippocampus hippocampus.
During the seahorse observation in Ria Formosa you will probably also see other species like octopus, cuttlefish and sea snails. It is also frequent to observe traditional shell fishing.
On this tour with seahorse observation in Ria Formosa you have the possibility to observe seahorses’ behavior in their natural environment while snorkeling. The skipper will be your guide during the snorkeling.
He’ll be happy to provide you with precious information about the species you’ll encounter and help you to identify the species of the seahorses.
The snorkeling will be done inside the Ria Formosa Natural Park. To get there, we will go by boat to reach the ideal spot for snorkeling. At this spot, we will be able to observe the bottom of the Ria and the seahorses’ communities.
In case you don’t have your one diving mask and snorkel, we can provide you the snorkeling equipment.
